Historical and Cultural Affairs (State of Delaware)
Historical Interpreter
211 Delaware Street New Castle, DE 19720
Working in the history and museum field has been a calling; in September 2022 I re-entered the museum field as an historical interpreter with the State of Delaware Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA) at the New Castle Courthouse Museum. I am also currently on the board of directors at Greenbank Mill & Philips Farm in Wilmington, Delaware. I worked for a decade as an education curator with the Delaware Historical Society at the Delaware History Museum and the Read House & Gardens. I loved conducting and planning open hearth cooking workshops and transcribing historic receipts, developing cemetery and walking tours, creating school programs making use of primary sources, and I truly appreciated and enjoyed working with all of the members of education staff who had so much knowledge and varied life experiences. I have coached Odyssey of the Mind, substitute taught k-12th grade for several years in Pennsylvania, had moments where I participated in English country dance in Philadelphia and Germantown, and I have a Master of Education with a concentration in special education. I am raising 4 children on the Delaware/ Pennsylvania state line with my husband, 2 dogs, and guinea pig.

My current focus is on the Colonial era and the formation of the United States of America and the state of Delaware. The courthouse is also a Network to Freedom site so we interpret some civil war, slavery, underground railroad, court cases, and legal documents pertaining to slavery and freedom as well. My first memories of truly enjoying history happened in my 4th grade social studies classroom, and on a field trip to the town of Historic New Castle where I learned to love history in my own backyard! I still remember some of the fun facts from my walking tour provided by the Read House and Gardens!
